Modesty for the Modern Catholic- Part 3: Modesty in Speech

Many men in my generation and younger speak to women, about women, and in front of women in terrible ways, using horrible language that tears women down and turns what God has designed to be beautiful and holy into something that is dirty and shameful. For many women, young and old, this type of speech from men is all they know.  Men either talk to and about them as sexual objects or ignore them, so many women feel that their worth is in their sexual nature, their ability to fulfill men’s sexual desires, and nothing more.  Many women—even “good,” Christian women would rather have this kind of attention than none at all, and so they not only allow this type of speech, but also engage in it as well because their own immodest speech brings them the attention of the men around them.

Living Life on Purpose

What are your values and priorities in life?  Could others look at your daily life and get a good sense of your "V's" and "P's"?  We know generally what we value, and what we believe our priorities are,  but we have to take the next step and apply that knowledge to our daily lives.

Unless and until we clearly define our values and priorities for ourselves, we run the risk of wondering aimlessly through life, until finally we look back and realize that we didn’t live out our values and priorities the way we had intended. Sadly, by then it is often too late. The damage has been done and is irreversible. A life without a plan is a life wasted.

A Simple Prayer

Thank you God for the things I have. Help me to learn to appreciate their value.
Thank you for the things i don't have.  Help me so that acquiring them does not become my goal.
Thank you for the things I've lost.  Show me how losing them can become my gain.
Thank  you for the people around me.  Help me grow old with those who love me.
Mature through those that don't, and understand the meaning of both.

Rethinking and Reclaiming the Term, Housewife

Today, the term housewife holds a negative connotation. It either implies that the woman is wealthy--staying at home because she can afford to do so, and hiring a maid to help clean, a nanny to help care for her children and a gardener to help beautify her house--or else the woman is incredible old-fashioned and dominated by her husband--spending her days doing servants work.  She is lazy, spending her days shopping and spending her husband’s money, or she is co-dependent and oppressed, lavishing over her husband who gives her nothing in return.  Either way she is far too dependent on her husband for her own good.
